Candide - Voltaire
(1759)
Considered
one of the foundation stones of the “Western Canon” and certainly one of the
most readable and with one of the most famous last lines in literature. A wild,
messy ride, it is a blasphemous and seditious satire. Banned by the Catholic Church
and in the US as late and as ridiculously as 1929.
