Ulysses - James Joyce. (1922)
Because
it was initially serialised, Ulysses was controversial long before book-form
publication. Banned for obscenity, smuggled, burned, widely read and discussed,
it was finally declared not obscene in the US in 1934. In this writer’s
opinion, flicking through to the rude parts is, for once, valid. The naughty
bits really are the best bits – and the easiest to understand.
