Slaughterhouse-Five - Kurt Vonnegut (1969)
Banned
from various school board in the US as “depraved, immoral, psychotic, vulgar
and anti-Christian”. That just about covers it. In 1982 the Supreme Court was
split down the middle as to whether this was allowed under the First Amendment.
(Look it up). Vonnegut’s book is autobiography, fantasy and SF, all mixed into
a fractured structure. He was himself actually in Dresden during the bombing –
the central event of the novel.
One of my all time favourites. Vonnegut was THE MAN. I saw the film first when I was at a hugley impressionable age. It blew me away, although the book blew me away even more. Breakfast of Champions (probably not banned) is also a mighty, mightly novel.
